Kunešov (until 1927 Slovak "Konošov"; German Kuneschhau , Hungarian Kunosvágása - until 1888 Konossó ) is a municipality in Slovakia in the Okres Žiar nad Hronom , 7 kilometers northwest of Kremnica . There is a larger German minority in the municipality (around 18% of the population in 2001).
history
In 1342 the predominantly Catholic village of St. Michaelis was founded by German miners. Nevertheless, there were always more Slovak than German residents. In the winter of 1429 Siegmund of Luxembourg gave the place to the city of Kremnitz ; its inhabitants thus became serfs of the city. Between 1910 and 1913 the relationship between Slovaks and Germans tipped.
During the Second World War , a German resistance group was formed in the village , and later - during the Slovak National Uprising - a partisan detachment under the leadership of Gejza Lacko. The Wehrmacht or the SS burned down 198 houses and farm buildings on April 2, 1945 in retaliation for supporting the partisans. A total of 72 community residents were killed during the war. The German residents escaped the expulsion due to their services in the fight against the German occupiers , to which the majority of the German population of Czechoslovakia fell victim after 1945.
