Lovča (until the 19th century Slovak "Veľká Lovča"; German Großlotza , Hungarian Nagylócsa - until 1873 Nagylovcsa ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with 682 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Žiar nad Hronom , a Part of the Banskobystrický kraj .

The village is located in the middle of the Žiarska kotlina basin on the right bank of the Hron . The approximately 10.4 km² large municipal area is slightly hilly, largely deforested and has alluvial and brown forest soils. The center of the village is at an altitude of 276  m nm and is four kilometers from Žiar nad Hronom .

Neighboring municipalities are Lovčica-Trubín in the north, Žiar nad Hronom (including the cadastral municipality Horné Opatovce ) in the east, Lehôtka pod Brehmi and Hliník nad Hronom in the south, Dolná Trnávka in the southwest and Prestavlky in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1283 as Loucha . At that time the village belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran , after 1776 it came to the Diocese of Neusohl . In 1536 there were a total of 29 portals , in 1720 52 taxpayers, in 1828 there were 86 houses and 546 residents who were employed in rafting, agriculture, fishermen and seasonal agricultural workers.

Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, 696 people lived in Lovča, including 650 Slovaks and one each Magyar, Roma and Ukrainian; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 42 residents gave no information in this regard. 611 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each to the Baha'itum , the Evangelical Church A. B, the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church; four residents professed a different denomination. 30 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 47 residents was not determined.
