Kopernica (until 1927 Slovak also "Koprnica"; German Deutschlitta , Hungarian Barskapronca - until 1907 Kapronca ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 411 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žiar nad Hronom , part of the Banskobystrický kraj , heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the western part of the Kremnický Mountains in the narrow and long Kopernický potok valley . The municipality is predominantly forested. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 500 m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Kremnica and 22 kilometers from Žiar nad Hronom .
Neighboring municipalities are Kunešov in the north, Lúčky in the northeast, Horná Ves , Dolná Ves and Bartošova Lehôtka in the southeast, Lutila in the south and Slaská in the west.
history
Kopernica was first mentioned in writing in 1444 as Kaproncza and at that time it was owned by the Archdiocese of Gran . In 1536 the village had a mill and 32 portals , in 1601 there were 71 houses, in 1720, according to a register, 78 taxpayers, 39 of them miners and eight craftsmen, lived in the village. In 1776 ownership changed to the Diocese of Neusohl . In 1828 there were 152 houses and 1,045 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as miners in the neighboring mining area and as manufacturers of stone mills.
Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Until shortly after the Second World War, Kopernica was a predominantly German-speaking village, after which the Germans were expelled; in their place came Slovak immigrants from the Horehronie area .
population
According to the 2011 census, 424 people lived in Kopernica, including 350 Slovaks , 20 Roma , 12 Germans , three Czechs and two Moravians . 37 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
306 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each for the Evangelical Church AB and one for the Evangelical Methodist Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 51 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 54 inhabitants was not determined.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic Martinskirche from 1349. The church has a baroque main altar and two side altars.
