Kremnické Bane (until 1948 in Slovak "Piargy" - until 1927 "Piarg"; German Johannesberg , Hungarian Jánoshegy - older also Perk or Berg ) is a small community in Kraj Banská Bystrica in central Slovakia .
The municipality is located four kilometers north of the town of Kremnica on a pass between the Pohronie and Turiec regions in the Kremnick Mountains , on the main road 65 between Žiar nad Hronom and Martin .
The place was first mentioned in 1361 as Villa Johannis , belongs to the city of Kremnica and was originally a German village. From 1980 to 1992 it was part of Kremnica.
There are some mining structures in the place (e.g. a historic aqueduct); there is also a small church of St. John (13th century), which is also one of the possible centers of Europe .
In the 2001 census, 88.4% of the 250 inhabitants declared themselves to be Slovaks , 10.40% as Germans and 0.40% as Czechs . The dominant denomination was Roman Catholic with 79.6%.
