The Okres Žiar nad Hronom (German District Holy Cross on Gran ) is an administrative unit in the central Slovakia km² with a population of 46,732 (December 31, 2019) and an area of 518th The seat of the Okres is Žiar nad Hronom , another historically significant city is Kremnica .
The Okres occupies the largest part of the Žiarska kotlina basin , and it also has a share in three mountains: Vogel Mountains in the north- west, Kremnica Mountains in the northeast and Schemnitz Mountains in the south. The most important river is the Hron , some tributaries in the Okres are Istebný potok and Teplá (left) as well as Kremnický potok , Lutilský potok and Prochotský potok (right).
Historically, the district lies entirely in the former Bars county (see also the list of historical counties in Hungary ).
