Dolná Ždaňa (until 1948 Slovak "Dolná Ždaňa"; Hungarian Alsózsadány - to 1892 Alsózsdány ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with 877 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Žiar nad Hronom , part of kraj Banskobystrický , heard.
geography
The community is located in the middle of the Žiarska kotlina basin on the lower reaches of the Prochotský creek , which flows into the Hron as a tributary on the right bank . Western parts of the municipality take up part of the Vtáčnik Mountains and are densely forested. The town center is located at an altitude of 239 m nm and is nine kilometers from Žiar nad Hronom .
Neighboring communities are Horná Ždaňa in the north, Dolná Trnávka in the northeast, Hliník nad Hronom in the southeast and south and Bzenica in the southwest and west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1391 as Sdan and was then part of the dominion of the Revište Castle . At the end of the 17th century, the local goods came into the possession of the Schemnitzer Bergkammer.
Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. The main source of income for the population was agriculture until the 1960s, after which the residents increasingly commute to the surrounding industrial plants.

According to the 2011 census, there were 796 inhabitants in Dolná Ždaňa, 710 of them Slovaks , 19 Roma , as well as one Pole and one Czech . 65 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .
595 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church A. B, five residents to the Pentecostal Movement, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one to the Evangelical Methodist Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 91 residents had no denomination and 92 residents had no denomination.
