Jastrabá (until 1927 Slovak also "Jastrabie"; Hungarian Karvaly - until 1892 Jasztraba , at times Jásztraba ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 534 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žiar nad Hronom , part of the Banskobystrický kraj , heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the Kremnica Mountains in the valley of a tributary of the Ihráčsky potok . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 425 meters and is 10 kilometers from Kremnica and 15 kilometers from Žiar nad Hronom .
Neighboring communities are Nevoľné in the north, Ihráč in the northeast, Trnavá Hora in the southeast, Pitelová in the south, Stará Kremnička in the southwest and Bartošova Lehôtka in the northwest.
history
Jastrabá was first mentioned in writing in 1487 as Iztrebe and at that time belonged to the estate of the Archdiocese of Gran . In 1601 there were a mill and 61 houses in the village, in 1715 the village had 40 taxpayers. In 1776 ownership changed to the newly founded Diocese of Neusohl . In 1828 there were 67 houses and 427 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and seasonal agricultural workers.
Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants were still employed as farmers, but also as workers in the surrounding industrial plants and railway workers. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in surrounding towns such as Zvolen , Kremnica and Žiar nad Hronom.

According to the 2011 census, Jastrabá had 577 inhabitants, including 569 Slovaks and three Czechs . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
491 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents to the Pentecostal movement, five residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Baha'itum. 40 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
