- 1977 : In the course of the decoupling of the Catholic Church in Slovakia from that in Hungary , the Banská Bystrica diocese is transferred from the Gran ecclesiastical province to the newly created Bratislava-Trnava ecclesiastical province , which was restructured on February 14, 2008 to the ecclesiastical province of Bratislava . With the simultaneous territorial reform of the western Slovak dioceses, the diocese of Banská Bystrica was considerably enlarged.
