The Archdiocese of Košice or Archbishopric of Kaschau ( Latin : Archidioecesis Cassoviensis ; Slovak .: Košická arcidiecéza ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in eastern Slovakia with its seat in Košice .

history

• 1804: Establishment of a bishopric in Košice in the newly created church province of Eger , in the north of the then Kingdom of Hungary .
• 1977: In the course of the decoupling of the Catholic Church in Slovakia from that in Hungary , the Košice diocese is transferred from the Eger ecclesiastical province to the newly created ecclesiastical province of Bratislava-Trnava .
• 1995: Elevation to the archbishopric with the suffragan dioceses Rožňava and Spiš .

The coat of arms of the Archdiocese shows a golden "Andrew's Cross" ( St. Andrew , Patron of the Archdiocese of Košice) on a blue background (the color of Mary , the patron saint of Slovakia ), the lily stands for the city of Kosice, and the three flowers stand for the landscapes (Regions) in Slovakia Saris , Abov and Semplin that make up the Archdiocese. In the crown, a miter , patriarchal cross and crook .
