Bernard Bober

Bernard Bober (born November 3, 1950 in Zbudské Dlhé in Okres Humenné ) is Archbishop of Košice .

Life

Bernard Bober attended elementary school in his hometown and high school in the district town. After graduating from high school in 1969, he entered the seminary in Bratislava . He studied theology and was ordained a priest on June 8, 1974 . After his work in the parish pastoral work, he became Vicar General of Bishop Alojz Tkáč in 1991 .

On 28 December 1992 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Vissalsa and auxiliary bishop in Kosice. He was ordained bishop on January 30, 1993 by Cardinal Jozef Tomko , Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in St. Elizabeth's Cathedral in Košice. Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Trnava , Ján Sokol and the Archbishop of Košice, Alojz Tkáč. On July 4, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Košice. As a member of the Slovak Bishops' Conference , he is chairman of the Council for Pastoral Care of Gypsies and Minorities and a member of the Catechesis and Education Commission .

The coat of arms is divided into blue and red, with a golden cross in the middle. At the top right on a blue background a golden "St. Andrew's Cross" (St. Andrew, patron saint of the diocese), a golden lily and three golden roses, is the coat of arms of Košice. At the top left, on a red background, a golden heart pierced with seven swords. A symbol of the Virgin Mary , the patroness of Slovakia . At the bottom right, on a blue background, a golden fish in it the continents and from above three rays ( Trinity ) a symbol of the new evangelization, a task that Pope John Paul II presented at the time of the appointment of bishops. At the bottom left on a red background the Lamb of God on the book with the seven seals (from the Revelation of John 5,6 EU ).

Behind the coat of arms is the bishop's cross, above it the green galero with six tassels hanging down. As archbishop the double patriarchal cross , the galero with ten tassels and as metropolitan the pallium .

His motto is Cum Caritas, oboedientia et Misericordia (“With love, obedience and mercy”).
