The diocese of Žilina ( Latin : Dioecesis Žilinensis ; Slovak .: Žilinská diecéza ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in northwest Slovakia with its seat in Žilina .

The diocese was established on February 14, 2008 from the northern parts of the diocese of Nitra and from the areas around the city of Martin , which were previously part of the diocese of Banská Bystrica .

The diocese is currently divided into ten deaneries :

  • Tomáš Galis (born December 22, 1950 in Selice ) He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1976, appointed titular bishop of Bita and auxiliary bishop in Banská Bystrica on August 28, 1999 , consecrated bishop on September 25, 1999 and February 14, 2008 from Žilina.
