Hans-Georg von Seidel (born November 11, 1891 in Diedersdorf ; † November 10, 1955 in Bad Godesberg ) served as an army officer in World War I and as an Air Force officer in World War II he was last named General of the Airmen .

biography

Von Seidel joined the Prussian army on March 18, 1910 , was promoted to lieutenant on August 18, 1911 , last served as an officer during the First World War with the rank of Rittmeister and then until he was released from active employment on April 26, 1920 in the rank of captain i. G ..

In May 1934 he entered as Major i. G. rejoined the armed forces, this time at the Reich Air Ministry of the Air Force. From August to October 1935, he was trained as an airspace observer at the Braunschweig Aviation School and the Jüterbog Combat Flying School, and in December of the same year he was transferred to the post of department head in the General Staff of the Air Force, where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In March 1937 he took up the position as commander of reconnaissance group 12 and in command of the Stargard- Klützow air base. In the subsequent assignment as Quartermaster General of the Air Force from April 16, 1938 to June 30, 1944, he was promoted to Colonel , Major General , Lieutenant General and General der Flieger. From July 1944 to February 1945 he was Commander in Chief of Air Fleet 10 . The transfer to the Führerreserve at the High Command of the Air Force took place at the end of February of the last year of the war.

Von Seidel was taken prisoner of war in Oberaudorf on May 5, 1945 and was handed over to the British on May 17. In 1948 he was released from captivity.

From July 1955 until his death he was a member of the personnel appraisal committee for the new Bundeswehr .

The General von Seidel barracks in Trier was named after him from 1965 to 2012 .
