Beluj (until 1927 Slovak and "Beluja"; Hungarian Beld - to 1892 Beluja or Belluja ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with 135 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Banská Štiavnica , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický belongs .

geography

The municipality is located in the Schemnitz Mountains below the 1009  m-nm high Sitno mountain in a small basin in the source area of ​​the Belujský potok . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 407  m nm and is 16 kilometers away from Banská Štiavnica .

Neighboring municipalities are Ilija in the north, Prenčov in the east, Hontianske Nemce in the southeast, Sebechleby and Ladzany in the south, Baďan in the west and Počúvadlo in the northwest.

history

Beluj was first mentioned in writing in 1232 as Bolug and at that time it was owned by the Hont-Pázmány family. In 1290 half of the village, now called Beel , was sold to a Schemnitz citizen for about 300 silver marks. In 1342 Belw was part of the territory of the Litava Castle , in 1388 it was owned by the Szecsényi family, and in the 16th century it was part of the Sitno Castle estate . In 1540 there was a mill and a church with a cemetery. Towards the middle of the 16th century, the village was affected by the attacking Turks. In 1715 the village had a mill and 61 households, in 1828 there were 112 houses and 672 residents who were employed as lumberjacks, farmers and potters.

Until 1918 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In Czechoslovakia, Beluj was predominantly agricultural, only a small part worked in industrial companies, such as B. in Banská Štiavnica.

According to the 2011 census, there were 131 residents in Beluj, including 111 Slovaks and one Magyar . 19 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

64 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and 40 residents to the Evangelical Church AB. Two residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 25 residents was not determined.
