Kozelník (Hungarian Zólyomkecskés - 1888-1907 Kecskés and until 1888 Kozelnik is a municipality in the) middle of Slovakia with 164 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Banská Štiavnica , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický belongs.

geography

The municipality is located in the Schemnitz Mountains in the narrow valley of the Jasenica river . The surrounding municipality is predominantly an andesite mountain country. The center of the village is at an altitude of 390  m nm and is 15 kilometers from Banská Štiavnica and 18 kilometers from Zvolen .

Neighboring municipalities are Hronská Breznica in the north, Ostrá Lúka in the northeast, Bacúrov in the east, Dubové in the southeast, Banská Belá in the southwest and Močiar in the west.

history

Kozelník was first mentioned in writing as Porwba in 1424 when it was part of the domain of Dobrá Niva Castle . It was probably founded in the early 15th century in connection with an iron ore plant in the neighboring town of Hronská Breznica. The current name was mentioned in 1553 in the form of Kozelnik . Between 1582 and 1668 Kozelník paid tribute to the Ottoman Empire. In the 17th century, the Bergkammer founded an ironworks that supplied the inhabitants of Kozelník with charcoal . Furthermore, tolls were levied at the village of Wegzoll at the transition from Sohl County to Hont County and vice versa. In 1828 there were 35 houses and 247 inhabitants who were employed as charcoal burners, farmers and forest workers.

Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, forestry and agriculture were the main sources of income.

According to the 2011 census, there were 185 inhabitants in Kozelník, including 183 Slovaks . Two residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

87 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 69 residents to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one to the Greek Catholic Church. 15 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 10 residents was not determined.
