The Köflach-Voitsberger Becken (also Voitsberg-Köflacher Becken ) is a basin in western Styria .

The basin, which is open to the east to the West Styrian Riedelland , has a complex topography and geology, which is why it is very difficult to define in terms of natural space. However, the population perceives the basin as a unit with a distinct regional identity.

The Graz-Köflacher railway and mining company mined lignite in the Voitsberg-Köflacher district . After the costs continued to rise due to the increasingly difficult mining conditions and with it the main customer, the Voitsberg steam power plant , was shut down due to unprofitability, the coal mining area was finally abandoned in 2006.
