Turová (until 1927 Slovak "Turavá"; Hungarian Zólyomtúr - 1888–1907 Túr and older Turova ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 424 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Zvolen , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The village is located at the transition from the Kremnica Mountains to the Zvolenská kotlina basin , in the valley of the Turová brook in the Hron catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 335  m nm and is 10 kilometers from Zvolen .

Neighboring municipalities are Sliač (district Hájniky ) in the north, Kováčová in the northeast and east, Budča in the south and Tŕnie in the west.

history

Turová was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1424 as Twrowa and at that time it belonged to the domain of Dobrá Niva Castle . In 1828 there were 22 houses and 174 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and cattle herders.

Until 1918, the places in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 385 residents in Turová, including 364 Slovaks , four Czechs and one Pole . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 15 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

279 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 16 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Mormons; one resident professed a different denomination. 62 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 26 residents was not determined.
