Lukavica (Hungarian Lukoca - until 1888 Lukavica ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 276 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Zvolen , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located in the mountainous part of the Zvolenská kotlina basin in the Lukavica brook valley . The center of the village is at an altitude of 340 m nm and is seven kilometers from Sliač and 12 kilometers from Zvolen .
Neighboring municipalities are Dolná Mičiná in the north, Sebedín-Bečov in the east, Sliač (Sampor district) in the south, Veľká Lúka in the west and Hronsek in the northwest.
history
Lukavica was first mentioned in writing in 1389 as Lukauicha . In 1424 one part belonged as a subject village to the dominion of Sohl and the second part belonged to the noble Lukavický family . Between 1582 and 1660 Lukavica paid tribute to the Ottoman Empire. The inhabitants were once known as bird catchers: according to the historian Matej Bel , an organized bird-catching competition took place every autumn.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 149 inhabitants in Lukavica, 147 of them Slovaks . Two residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
76 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 34 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Reformed Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 25 residents were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 10 residents.
