Kováčová (until 1927 in Slovak "Kováčova"; in Hungarian Kovácsfalva - until 1882 Kovacsova ) is a municipality and a spa in central Slovakia . It is located in the Zvolenská kotlina basin at the foot of the Kremnica Mountains , about 5 km from Zvolen and 18 km from Banská Bystrica .
The place was first mentioned in writing as Koachou in 1254 . The original place was about two kilometers to the west from today's municipality and is now called Stará Kováčová . During drilling work for the construction of a steel and iron factory in 1898, a hot spring was found and shortly afterwards (1899, 1905) it was used as a spa.
