Očová (Hungarian Nagyócsa - until 1902 Ocsova ) is a municipality in central Slovakia . It is located in the Zvolenská kotlina basin at the foot of the Poľana Mountains , about 12 km from Zvolen and Detva .
The place was first mentioned in writing as Ochowa in 1351 .

- Jozef Moravčík (* 1945), former Prime Minister of Slovakia and Mayor of Bratislava
- Stephan Pilarick Sen. (1615–1693), Hungarian theologian and philosopher . Exile . First pastor of the newly founded town of Neu-Salza , who headed the cross-border parish from 1674 to 1693 and preached in three languages.
