Železná Breznica (until 1927 in Slovak "Železná Brežnica"; in Hungarian Vaségető - until 1907 Vasberzence ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 550 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Zvolen , a district of Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located within the Kremnica Mountains in the lower part of the Turovské predhorie in the valley of the Breznický brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 460 m nm and is 14 kilometers away from Zvolen .
The small settlement Huta south of the main town also belongs to the community.
Neighboring municipalities are Kremnica and Sielnica in the north, Sliač in the northeast, Tŕnie in the east and southeast, Hronská Dúbrava in the south, Trnavá Hora in the southwest and west, and and Ihráč in the northwest.
history
Železná Breznica was first mentioned in writing in 1424 as Wasekethew , as part of the domain of Dobrá Niva Castle . As the name suggests (Hungarian vas and Slovak železný = German iron), there were iron ore mines in the vicinity of what is now central Slovakian mining towns in the late Middle Ages and modern times. From 1546 to 1848 the village was owned by the Neusohler Bergkammerverwaltung. In 1828 there were 42 houses and 318 inhabitants in the village. At the beginning of the 20th century Železná Breznica was a small forest and agricultural village.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Železná Breznica had 565 inhabitants, including 535 Slovaks and two Czechs . Two residents indicated a different ethnic group and 16 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
452 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 13 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 48 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 37 inhabitants was not determined.
