history
The thermal springs of the Sliač spa located on a hill above the left bank of the river Hron (German Gran ) are mentioned as early as the 13th century. The spa gained greater fame through a four-week stay of Archduke Joseph , Palatine of Hungary, in the company of his wife, Archduchess Maria Dorothea in 1823. The spa was acquired by George André Lenoir in 1878 and the location (then Szliács , also Sliatsch , in Lower Hungary ) expanded into an elegant fashion spa, which was particularly popular with wealthy Hungarian society around 1900. You strolled under double rows of trees and the latest melodies were played in the music pavilion, e.g. B. by Franz Lehár , who occasionally even conducted here himself. After the death of GA Lenoir, the health resort came under the care and administration of the city of Kassel as part of the Lenoir Foundation, which continued to expand and promote the health resort. The Sliač spa was the main source of income for the foundation, which works for the welfare of orphans . Because of the difficult administration during the First World War , the foundation administration sold the bath to Alexander Justusz in 1918 . This was expropriated in 1922 by the newly founded Czechoslovak state and Sliač became a state spa . The springs are rich in minerals and carbonic acid .
