Medyka is a village in powiat Przemyski in Subcarpathian Voivodeship , Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with about 2600 inhabitants.
geography
Medyka is about ten kilometers east of Przemyśl on the Polish-Ukrainian border . There is also a large border crossing to Ukraine at Droga krajowa 28 and on the Lviv – Przemyśl railway line .
history
Traces indicate that the area was settled as early as the Bronze Age. Coin finds document trade relations with the Roman Empire. The coins are from the time of the emperors Hadrian and Antoninus Pius . These trade relations came to a standstill with the great migration. Nearby ostslavische tribe of were Chorvaten resident. From the eleventh to the thirteenth century, Medyka was part of the Kievan Rus , which fell into separate principalities after the death of Yaroslav the Wise . Under Casimir the Great , Medyka was given city rights. A first mention as "Medyce" comes from the year 1403. In the fifteenth century there was a wooden castle in the place, which was rebuilt and strengthened in 1542. A castle was built on the remains of the castle at the end of the eighteenth century. Today only remnants of the palace and castle are preserved. Over the following centuries the complex fell into disrepair. In the second half of the eighteenth century Medyka had 1101 inhabitants. In 1772 Medyka came to Austria and became part of Galicia . In 1831 a school for garden design was established.
In September 1939 the place was occupied after the occupation of eastern Poland by the Soviet Union and from 1940 it was the capital of the newly created Medyka Rajon , came to the Krakow district in the Generalgouvernement in August 1941 after the German invasion of the Soviet Union and was after the reconquest by the Red Army From 1944 to 1948 part of the Ukrainian SSR in Drohobych Oblast .
After the war, Medyka came to Poland only in 1948.
From 1975 to 1998 the village belonged to the Przemyśl Voivodeship .

The rural community (gmina wiejska) includes seven Sołectwa ( school offices ). It has an area of 60.7 km². 82% of the municipal area is used for agriculture.
