Wadowice district
The Wadowice district was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory covered parts of western Galicia in what is now the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , the seat of the district administration was in the city of Wadowice . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire district to Poland .
It bordered on the northwest by the district Oswiecim , on the north by the Cracow district , in the northeast on the district Podgórze , on the southeast by the district Myślenice , on the south by the district Zywiec and the west by the district Biala .
history
A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the district administration Wadowice was subordinate to the government area Kraków and included the following judicial districts:
- Wadowice judicial district
- Zator judicial district
- Myślenice judicial district
- Landskron judicial district
After the general principles of judicial and administrative reform had been approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I in June 1849 , the ministries of the interior, finance and justice established the new administrative and judicial division in 1854. At the top level, the two administrative areas Krakow (West Galicia) and Lemberg (East Galicia) were created, followed by the districts and the administrative districts . The district offices were initially mixed authorities with political, administrative and judicial tasks, which is why the Wadowice district was initially congruent with the Wadowice judicial district . The establishment of these mixed district offices finally became officially effective on September 29, 1855, whereby the Wadowice district together with the districts Andrychów , Biała , Jordanów , Kalwarya , Kenty , Maków , Milówka , Myślenice , Oświęcim , Seypusch , Skawina and Ślemień formed the district of Wadowice .
After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices, the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.
The new political district Wadowice was formed from the following districts:
- Wadowice district
- Andrychów district
- Parts of the Kalwaryja district (excluding the municipalities of Sułkowice , Biertowice )
- Parts of the Maków District ( Budzów , Marcówka and Zembrzyce Communes )
- Parts of the Oświęcim district ( Kolipowieckie , Podolsze and Przeciszów municipalities )
- Parts of the Ślemień District ( Śleszowice Dolne and Śleszowice Górne municipalities )
- Parts of the Skawina district (municipalities of Borek Szlachecki , Facimiech , Gołuchowice , Krzęcin , Ochodza , Polanka Haller and Zelczyna )
In contrast to other crown lands, these provisions divided judicial districts into several political districts. In order to rectify this situation, a comprehensive territorial reform of the judicial districts took place in 1878. In the course of the reform, the judicial districts of Skawina, Oświęcim and Ślemień ceded the municipalities assigned to the Wadowice District to the Wadowice District, the municipalities of the Maków and Kalwaryja Districts located in the Myślenice District were transferred to the Myślenice District. In addition, municipalities were swapped between the judicial districts within the Wadowice district. As a result of the territorial reform that took effect on August 1, 1878, the Wadowice district consisted of the judicial districts of Andrychów, Kalwaryja and Wadowice from this point in time.
On October 1, 1891, the judicial district Zator was added, which was formed from parts of the judicial districts Wadowice and Andrychów.
On July 1, 1910, the Zator judicial district was spun off from the district area and added to the newly founded Oświęcim district.
In the 1910 census, the Wadowice district consisted of 87 municipalities and 64 manor areas and covered an area of 666 km². In 1900 the population had still comprised 88,554 people, in 1910 95,339 people lived here. Almost exclusively people with Polish colloquial language (99%) and Roman Catholic lived in the area, Jews made up around 3.5% of the population.
