history

Zembrzyce is the second oldest settlement in the Skawa mountain valley. The place was first mentioned in 1333 as the then already developed village of Zubrzic , when a certain Żegota von Benkowicz (now a hamlet of Zebrzydowice ) received a forest on the Skawa from Duke Johann I in order to found new villages there under German law. It is not certain which villages he founded at that time, but it was probably the majority of the villages in the area mentioned in the late 14th century: Krzeszów (1355), Śleszowice (1376), Świnna Poręba (1379 ), Jaszczurowa (1389) and Gorzeń (1390).

Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Auschwitz , which existed from 1315 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 the duchy existed under the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia . Since 1445 it belonged to the Duchy of Zator , which was sold to the Polish king in 1494.

In 1529 it was mentioned as Zambrzyce , then in 1544 as Zembrice . In 1533 a new parish was established there. The village was colonized by Wallachians from the end of the 16th century .

Subsequently, the Duchy of Auschwitz-Zator was completely attached to the Kingdom of Poland in 1564, as the district of Silesia in the Krakow Voivodeship , and from 1569 in the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic .

During the first partition of Poland , Zembrzyce came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). After the abolition of patrimonial it formed a municipality in the judicial district of Wadowice in the Wadowice District after 1850 .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Zembrzyce came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . The village was divided into two parts, namely the new border between the district of Bielitz in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ) of the German Reich in the west and the Generalgouvernement in the east ran through Skawa, then Schaue , with border guards at the bridge .

From 1975 to 1998 Zembrzyce was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
