On May 23, 1772, a battle of the Confederation of Bar ( Battle of Lanckorona ) occurred near the village . During the first partition of Poland , Harbutowice was added to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). From 1782 it belonged to the Myslenice district (1819 with the seat in Wadowice ). After the abolition of patrimonial it formed a municipality in the Wadowice district after 1850 .
After the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Harbutowice became part of Poland. This assignment was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . Meanwhile, the place was subordinate to the General Government.
From 1975 to 1998 Harbutowice was part of the Krakow Voivodeship .
