history

In 1348 the local stream Strzebuna was mentioned in a document in the founding privilege of the downstream village Stróża. The royal village of the same name could have been founded by King Casimir the Great under German law. In 1410 it belonged to the Starostei with 15 other villages with the seat in the castle Lanckorona , but the village Trzebunya was first mentioned in 1443. The name is topographically derived from the verb trzebić (to cut down), like the masculine (Trzeboń) or Czech (Trebon) form.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). From 1782 it belonged to the Myslenice district (1819 with the seat in Wadowice ). After the abolition of patrimonial , after 1850 it formed a municipality in the Myślenice district .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Trzebunia became part of Poland , with the exception of the time when Poland was occupied by the Wehrmacht during World War II . It then belonged to the Krakow district of the General Government .

From 1945 to 1998 Trzebunia was part of the Krakow Voivodeship.
