Baron Alington was a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once each in the Peerage of Ireland , in the Peerage of England and the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awards

The first time the title Baron Alington , of Killard in the County of Cork , was created on July 28, 1642 in the Peerage of Ireland for William Alington . His younger son, William Alington, 3rd Baron Alington , was Major-General in the English Army and a Member of the House of Commons . On December 5, 1682 he was also awarded the title Baron Alington , of Wymondley in the County of Hertford , by Letters patent in the Peerage of England . The English title expired on the death of his son, the 4th or 2nd baron , on September 18, 1691, the Irish title on the death of his brother, the 5th baron , in February 1723.

On January 15, 1876, the title Baron Alington , of Crichel in the County of Dorset , was recreated in the Peerage of the United Kingdom for the Conservative MP Henry Sturt . The title expired on the death of his grandson, the 3rd Baron, on September 17, 1940.
