Israel Rosenberg

Israel Rosenberg (born around 1855, died 1903 or 1904) was a Yiddish actor and theater director.

Life

Israel Rosenberg lived in Odessa as a small businessman. In 1877 he went to Bucharest like other traders from Russia after the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish War . There he got to know Abraham Goldfaden's Yiddish theater and became an actor there. Shortly afterwards he founded his own theater company and toured Romania .

In 1878 he returned to Odessa. There he founded his own theater, a. a. with Jacob Adler as an actor. The ensemble traveled through various cities in the Russian Empire. In 1883 he did not go abroad after the ban on Yiddish theater and stayed in Russia.

His further fate is unknown. In 1903 he was completely impoverished. He is said to have died shortly afterwards.
