Abraham Ellstein

Abraham "Abe" Ellstein (born July 9, 1907 in New York City , † March 22, 1963 ibid) was an American composer of Yiddish light music .

He was born in the Lower East Side , Manhattan , the "Eastern Europe" of Jewish immigrants, and with his songs is one of the pioneers of American-Jewish musical theater and co-founder of the musical tradition on Broadway. He also contributed the music to the film Yidl mitn Fidl - one of the most successful films in the Yiddish language.
