Location of the Nowy Sącz district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria

The district of Nowy Sącz (until about 1910 the district of Neusandec or district of Neusandez ) was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory covered parts of western Galicia in today's Poland ( Powiat Nowy Sącz ), the seat of the district administration was the city of Nowy Sącz . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire district to Poland, large parts of which can be found today in the Powiat Nowosądecki .

It bordered the Brzesko District to the north, the Tarnów District to the northeast, the Gorlice District to the east, the Kingdom of Hungary to the south, the Nowy Targ District to the west and the Limanowa District to the northwest .

history

A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the district authority Neu-Sandec was subordinate to the government territory of Kraków and included the following judicial districts:

  • Neu-Sandec judicial district
  • Limanow judicial district
  • Zbyszyce judicial district
  • Krynica judicial district

After the announcement in 1854, the district office Neu-Sandec (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) within the district of Sandec was established on September 29, 1855 .

After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.

The new political district Neu-Sandec was formed from the following districts:

At the 1910 census, the Nowy Sącz district consisted of 175 municipalities and 128 manor areas and covered an area of 1262 km². In 1900 the population was 119,773, in 1910 131,366 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with a Polish slang (86%) and Roman Catholic beliefs, Jews made up around 9% of the population (the largest proportion in Załubińcze - incorporated in Nowy Sącz from 1903).
