history

The place was probably founded by townspeople from Nowy Sącz (New Sandez) and was first mentioned in a document between 1320 and 1330. The possessive name is derived from the personal name Piątek , but in the Middle Ages it was also called Gisdorf . In 1360 the village belonged to the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Nowy Sącz. Since 1412 it belonged to the Premonstratensians in Nowy Sącz. In the following centuries it was pawned by Nowy Sącz.

After the First Partition of Poland, Piątkowa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1900 the village had 806 inhabitants in 133 houses, all of whom were Polish-speaking, 765 Roman Catholics and 41 Jews.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Piątkowa came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .

From 1975 to 1998 Piątkowa belonged to the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .

Part of the former village was separated in 1977 and attached to the city of Nowy Sącz .
