history

The place was first mentioned in 1225. Since 1257 he belonged to the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz. In 1280 he was mentioned as Swynarsco . Later it was divided into two parts: Świniarsko Major ( Large ) and Świniarsko Minor ( Small , today's Mała Wieś ). Since 1288 Świniarsko Major belonged to the Kraków bishops.

After the First Partition of Poland , Świniarsko came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1788, as part of the Josephine colonization, German colonists of the Lutheran denomination were settled. The colonists belonged to the parish in Stadła . By the end of the 19th century, the colonists' descendants were Polonized. In 1900 the village had 681 inhabitants, all of them Polish-speaking, 645 Roman Catholic, 5 Jews, 31 of other faiths (predominantly Protestant).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Świniarsko came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement . On September 7, 1939, it was the first village in this area to be occupied by German troops. Polish troops killed a German officer and, in retaliation, 18 village citizens were killed and 26 houses burned down.

From 1975 to 1998 Świniarsko was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
