The place is located on a peninsula that was created after the Jezioro Rożnowskie reservoir was founded on the Dunajec . The former city center was flooded at that time.

history

According to legend, Zbyszyce was visited by Adalbert of Prague in the 10th century , but the place was first mentioned in 1242. From the 13th to the 16th centuries it belonged to the Kępiński family.

In 1447 a Gothic church was built, which from 1565 to 1597 became the seat of an important parish of the Arians , d. H. of the Polish Brothers .

grange

During the first partition of Poland , Zbyszyce came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). In 1785 Zbyszyce was promoted to town, but never rebuilt after the devastating flood in 1813 and in 1896 the town lost its town charter.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Zbyszyce came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

After another flood in 1934, the idea of building the trunk on Dunajec was born. In 1941 the center of Zbyszyce was flooded. However, the Gothic church and manor from the late 18th century have been preserved.
