Zbaraż district
The Zbaraż district was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory included parts of eastern Galicia in today's Western Ukraine ( Oblast Ternopil , Rajon Zbarazh and Pidvolochysk Raion ), seat of the district administration was the city Zbaraż . In November 1918, after the collapse of the Danube Monarchy at the end of World War I, the district was briefly part of the West Ukrainian People's Republic .
It bordered on the north and east by the Russian Empire , the south by the district Skalat , in the southwest of the district Tarnopol and in the west to the district Brody .
history
After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.
The new political district of Zbaraż was formed from the following districts:
- Zbaraż district (with 31 municipalities)
- Medyń District (with 29 municipalities)
- Parts of the Ihrowice District (Mszczaniec, Ditkowce, Berezowica Mała, Iwanczany, Kurniki, Kobyła, Dobrowody, Czumałe, Opryłowce, Netreba municipalities)
The Zbaraż district consisted of 62 municipalities and 48 manor areas at the 1910 census and covered an area of 740 km². In 1900 the population was 67,383, in 1910 71,498 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Ruthenian colloquial language (57%) and the Greek Catholic faith, while Jews made up around 7% of the population.
