history
The place was first mentioned in 1280 as Cyrncza when it was awarded by Kinga of Poland to the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz (Alt Sandez). Later it was mentioned as Chirnche (1283), Czirncze (1292) and once in 1323 in German as Bramdorf . The name is derived from the personal name Czarnek or Czyrnek with the suffix -ja, later -ec.
After the First Partition of Poland , Czerniec came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Czerniec came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .
From 1975 to 1998 Czerniec was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
