Ponikiew is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Wadowice in the powiat Wadowicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland .

The place is located on the Ponikiewka brook in the Little Beskids ( Beskid Mały ).

The village of Zawadka belongs to the Schulzenamt Ponikiew .

Neighboring towns are Zawadka and Chocznia in the north, Gorzeń Górny in the east, Koziniec and Jaszczurowa in the southeast, Rzyki in the southwest, Kaczyna in the west.

history

The place was founded by Wallachian shepherds in the middle of the 15th century and mentioned for the first time in 1564. Later, by the late 19th century, the village absorbed the following places: Chobot , Koziniec and Kaczyna .

During the first partition of Poland , Ponikiew became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Ponikiew came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Bielitz in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ).

From 1975 to 1998 Ponikiew belonged to the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
