Witanowice is a village with a Schulzenamt of the Tomice municipality in the powiat Wadowicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland .

The place is located on the right bank of the Soła River .

Neighboring towns are the town of Wadowice in the south, Radocza in the west, Woźniki and Zygodowice in the north, and Lgota in the east.

history

Witanowice was first mentioned in the year 1317 and later in the Peterspfennigregister of the year 1326 in the deanery Zator of the diocese of Krakow as the parish Villa Wriderici seu Vitanowicz . Both names are patronymically derived from the first names Fryderyk (perhaps a German) and Witan (a Pole). In 1361 nova Wythanouicz was mentioned, probably today's Lgota .

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Auschwitz , which existed from 1315 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia . Since 1445 it belonged to the Duchy of Zator , which was sold to Poland in 1494.

With the first partition of Poland in 1772 Witanowice came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Witanowice became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Witanowice belonged to the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
