history

Palace in Piekary

There are archaeological finds of the presence of the Neanderthals in the local caves nad Galoską and na Gołąbcu . There was a Slavic rampart on the Kozierówka hill in the 13th century .

The official settlement name Pekare ( piekarze - the bakers) was first mentioned in 1286.

When Poland was partitioned for the third time in 1795, Piekary became part of the Habsburg Empire . In the years 1815-1846 the village belonged to the Republic of Krakow , in 1846 it was annexed again as part of the Grand Duchy of Krakow to the countries of the Austrian Empire. From 1855 Piekary was part of the Kraków district . In the years 1857-1865 a palace was built on the site of the manor.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Piekary became part of Poland . This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , where it belonged to the Krakow district in the Generalgouvernement .

From 1945 to 1998 Piekary was part of the Kraków Voivodeship.
