Rybna ( German Riebnig ) is a village in the municipality Popielów (Alt Poppelau) in the powiat Opolski of the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Rybna is located in the east of the historical region of Lower Silesia on the border with Upper Silesia . The place is about four kilometers west of the municipality seat Popielów (Alt Poppelau) and about 33 kilometers northwest of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole .

The Oder runs south of the village . At Rybna the Nysa Kłodzka (Eng. Glatzer Neisse ) flows into the Oder. The village is located in the Stobrawski Landscape Park .

North of Rybna is the place Stare Kolnie (German old Cologne ). In the east lies the municipality of Poppelau (Polish Popielów ) and in the southeast the village of Klink (Polish Popielowska Kolonia ).

history

Riebnig was first mentioned as Rybna in 1321 . Further mentions took place in the years 1324 and 1547. The place name is derived from the Slavic term Ryba (English fish ) and roughly means fish village .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Riebnig and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Riebnig belonged to the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau from 1816 . In 1845 the Polish place name is mentioned as Riebna . In the same year there was a farm, a brick factory and another 43 houses in the village. In 1845 379 people lived in Riebnig, 57 of them Catholic. In 1874 the district of Riebnig was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Alt Cöln and Riebnig and the manor district of Riebnig.

In 1933 there were 466 inhabitants in Riebnig. In 1939 the place had 413 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau . During the Second World War there was an imperial labor camp in the village.

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Rybna . The German population was expelled and Poles settled. From 1945 to 1954 and from 1973 to 1975 the place was part of the Karłowice Municipality. In 1946 the place came to the Wroclaw Voivodeship, 1950 to the Opole Voivodeship .

In 1997 the village was completely flooded during the Oder flood of the century . In 1999 the place was assigned to the re-established Powiat Opolski .
