Hirschfelde ( Polish Kaniów ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Klink is located in the rural municipality of Poppelau in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district) in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Hirschfelde is located about seven kilometers east of the Poppelau municipality and 28 kilometers northwest of the district town and voivodeship capital of Opole ( Opole ). The Brinnitze , a tributary of the Budkowitz stream, flows south of the village . Hirschfeld is located in the middle of a large forest area that is part of the Stobrawski Landscape Protection Park.

history

Sacred Heart Church

The place was founded in 1773 in the course of the Frederician colonization as a forest workers colony. Most of the settlers came from Upper Silesia.

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Old Schalkowitz belonged starting from 1816 to the district Opole in the administrative district of Opole .

In 1845 the Polish place name is mentioned as Kaniów . In the same year there was a Catholic school, a royal sub-forestry, a pitch furnace and 40 other houses in the village. In 1845 346 people lived in the village, four of them Jewish. In 1865 the place had 17 colony and 21 cottages and a royal forestry. At that time, the residents of Alt Schalkowitz were parish, but had their own Catholic school. In 1874 the district of Alt Schalkowitz was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Alt Schalkowitz, Hirschfelde and Neu Schalkowitz.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 233 eligible voters voted to remain in Germany and 175 to belong to Poland. Hirschfelde remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 543 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 568 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Kaniów and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. Since 1999 Kaniów has belonged to the re-established Powiat Opolski . On September 30, 2014, the place was also given the official German place name Hirschfelde .
