The Powiat Opolski is a powiat (district) in the Polish Voivodeship Opole (Oppeln) . The powiat has 135,000 inhabitants and an area of 1587 square kilometers.
geography
The powiat encloses the district town of Opole (Oppeln) , which does not belong to it, but remains independent. Neighboring powiate in the north are Namysłów and Kluczbork , in the east Olesno and Strzelce Opolskie , in the south Krapkowice , Prudnik , Nysa and in the west Brzeg .
history
In 2016 it was decided that several places from the neighboring communities of the city of Opole should be incorporated. They left the district on January 1, 2017.

The powiat comprises thirteen municipalities, including four urban and rural municipalities - Niemodlin , Ozimek , Proskau and Tułowice , whose main towns of the same name have municipal rights - and nine rural municipalities.
Most of the communities in the Powiat are officially bilingual (Polish and German). The German population makes up over twenty percent in these communities. The municipalities of Niemodlin and Tułowice have hardly any residents of German descent, the municipalities of Ozimek and Dąbrowa have a mixed population, but their municipal councils have not yet applied for or voted against the introduction of minority rights.

The district administration is headed by a starost . Currently this is Henryk Lakwa, who belongs to the German minority.
District council
The district council consists of 23 members who are elected by the population. The 2018 elections brought the following results:
- Election committee German minority 37.1% of the vote, 12 seats
- Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) 25.2% of the vote, 6 seats
- Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) 15.9% of the vote, 2 seats
- Local Government Election Committee 13.6% of the vote, 2 seats
- Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe (PSL) 8.3% of the vote, 1 seat
