The community Turawa ( Gmina Turawa ) is a rural municipality in the Opole County of Opole in Poland . Its seat is the village of the same name with around 1150 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality borders the voivodeship capital Opole in the south-west and, like this, is centrally located in the voivodeship. Neighboring communities are Chronstau , Gross Lassowitz , Lugnian , Opole, Ozimek and Zembowitz . The Turawa reservoir belongs to the municipal area .
The waters include the Turawa reservoir (Jeziora Turawskie) with the tributaries Mała Panew ( German Malapane ) and Libawa.
history
In the referendum on March 20, 1921, 320 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 133 for Poland.
In 1945 the area came to Poland. The Gmina Turawa was formed and became part of the Opole Voivodeship in 1950. The Gromada Turawa existed from 1954 to 1972 . From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the smaller Opole Voivodeship .
In the 2002 census, 21.1% of the community population of 9609 inhabitants said they belonged to the German minority and another 7% said they belonged to the unrecognized “Silesian” nationality. 12.7% of the population did not state any nationality in the survey.
On March 8, 2012, additional official German place names were introduced in the community.
politics
Community leader
The head of the municipal administration is the municipality leader . Since 2002 this has been Waldemar Kampa from the German minority. The regular election in October 2018 led to the following result.
- Dominik Pikos (election committee “Together we can do more”) 55.2% of the votes
- Waldemar Kampa ( German Minority Election Committee ) 44.8% of the vote
This means that Pikos was elected the new mayor in the first ballot.
Municipal council
The municipal council consists of 14 members and is directly elected in single-person constituencies. The 2018 municipal council election led to the following result:
- Election committee “Together we can do more” 53.2% of the votes, 7 seats
- Election committee German minority 37.3% of the votes, 6 seats
- Election committee “Our self-government” 5.8% of the votes, 1 seat
- Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) 3.1% of the vote, no seat
- Remaining 0.6% of the vote, no seat
