The municipality Zembowitz ( Polish Gmina Zębowice ) is a rural municipality in the powiat Oleski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the village of the same name with about 1500 inhabitants (June 2007).
With 44 percent, the community has the largest share of members of the German minority in Poland and has been officially bilingual since 2007.
history
Zembowitz had a station on the Kędzierzyn-Koźle-Kluczbork railway . Passenger traffic was discontinued on December 12, 2004 and the route was closed.
After the introduction of German as the second official language in 2007, on November 19, 2008, the places in the municipality were also given official German place names.
2002 census
Along with Czissek and Klein Strehlitz, Zembowitz is the only municipality in Poland that is predominantly inhabited by Germans (2002 census).

The rural community (gmina wiejska) Zembowitz with about 3700 inhabitants is divided into nine villages with school authorities :
- Frei Kadlub / Kadłub Wolny
- Kneja / Knieja
- Lenke / Łąka
- Oschietzko / Osiecko
- Poscholkau / Poczołków
- Pruskau / Prusków
- Radau / Radawie
- Schiedlisk / Siedliska (approx. 1845–1936 Frei Pipa )
- Zembowitz / Zębowice
In addition, the municipality includes other villages that do not have the status of a Schulzenamt, such as Borowiany (Borowian) , Koschütz / Kosice, Nowa Wieś (Neudorf) and Radawka (Radawka colony) .

Community leader
The head of the municipal administration is the municipality leader . Since 2008 this is Waldemar Czaja. The regular election in October 2018 brought the following result:
- Waldemar Czaja (Election Committee "Waldemar Czaja - Effective for the Municipality") 57.2% of the votes
- Edmund Langosz ( German Minority Election Committee ) 42.8% of the vote
Czaja was thus re-elected in the first ballot.
Municipal council
The municipal council consists of 15 members and is directly elected in single-person constituencies. The 2018 municipal council election led to the following result:
- German minority election committee 53.5% of the vote, 10 seats
- Election committee "Waldemar Czaja - Effective for the municipality" 43.6% of the votes, 5 seats
- Election Committee "Pszylepek" 2.9% of the vote, no seat
