Zembowitz ( Polish Zębowice ) is a village and capital of the rural municipality of the same name with around 3700 inhabitants in the powiat Oleski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .
Zembowitz has been officially bilingual since 2007.
history
The Catholic parish church of the Assumption was first mentioned in 1447. In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 182 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 250 for Poland. At Gut Zembowitz, 147 people voted for Germany, 119 for Poland. Zembowitz remained with the German Empire. On January 9, 1935, the place was renamed Föhrendorf . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Rosenberg OS
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration, was renamed Zębowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 Zembowitz became part of the Opole Voivodeship and in 1999 the re-established Powiat Opolski . On November 19, 2008, the place was also given the official German place name Zembowitz .

The rural community of Zembowitz is divided into nine villages with school offices. With 44 percent, it is the Polish community with the largest proportion of members of the German minority in Poland .
