The Gmina Olesno is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Oleski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the small town of the same name (German Rosenberg OS ) with about 9400 inhabitants.

The urban-and-rural municipality of Olesno has almost 18,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​240.8 km², 42% of which is covered with forest. In addition to Olesno, the municipality is divided into the following 18 villages:

The administration is headed by a mayor who is directly elected by the population every four years. In the 2018 mayoral election, Sylvester Lewicki was the only candidate for whom 78.8% of the votes were cast.

The election of the 15-member municipal council on the same day produced the following results:

  • Election Committee Olesna-Land - Our Future 49.6% of the vote, 12 seats
  • Election committee German minority 17.6% of the votes, no seat (*)
  • Election Committee Piotr Grędy 6.2% of the vote, 1 seat
  • Election Committee Marek Leśniak 5.5% of the vote, 1 seat
  • Election Committee Horst Chwałek 4.0% of the vote, no seat
  • Election Committee Jan Bonk 3.8% of the vote, 1 seat

(*) = The German minority election committee received up to 48% of the votes in individual constituencies, but was unable to win any of the 15 single-person constituencies.

On the Kalety – Wrocław railway line, there is the Olesno station and stops in Sowczyce and Stare Olesno; there used to be a connection to the Rosenberg circular railway .
