The village was first mentioned in 1424 as Sowczicz . The place name is derived from the Slavic term Sowa (dt. Owl ) and means approximately Eulendorf .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Schoffschütz and most of Silesia fell to Prussia . The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Entries describing Silesia as Schofzi (t) z , belonged to a Count von Gessler and was in the Rosenberg district of the Principality of Opole . At that time he had 395 inhabitants, a grand Vorwerk , a mill, 18 peasants, 18 gardeners and five Häusler.

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Schoffschütz belonged to the district of Rosenberg OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a castle, a farm, a forestry, a Catholic school, a distillery and 81 houses in the village. In the same year 599 people lived in Schoffschütz, 12 of them Protestants. In 1865 Schoffczitz consisted of a dominion and a village. At that time the village had 18 farmers, twelve gardeners, 28 cottagers and a blacksmith, as well as a Catholic school. A distillery, a horse mill and a brick factory belonged to the estate. In 1874 the administrative district Schoffschütz was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Lomnitz, Schoffczütz and Tellsruh and the manor districts Lomnitz and Schoffczütz. The first head of office was the manor owner and Major Count Gessler. In 1885 Schoffschütz had 516 inhabitants.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 117 eligible voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 233 for membership in Poland. At Gut Schoffschütz, 176 voted for Germany and 51 for Poland. Schoffschütz remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . In 1925 929, in 1939 again 687 people lived in the village. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Rosenberg OS

In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Sowczyce on March 15, 1947 . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship and in 1975 to the Czestochowa Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Oleski and again to the Opole Voivodeship.

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic scrap wood church of St. Antonius (Polish Kościół św. Antoniego Padewskiego ) was built in 1586. 1917 Church building Lomnitz was to Schoffschütz translocated . Originally a stone tower belonged to the church. Between 1983 and 1984 the building was completely renovated. The church has a rectangular choir with sacristy, a saddle roof and a rectangular roof turret over the nave. The roofs and walls are shingled. The interior has baroque furnishings , including a wooden altar from the 17th century, a pulpit with bas-relief and a station of the cross from 1849.
  • Between 1962 and 1966 a modern stone Antonius Church was built in the immediate vicinity.
  • The Schoffschütz Castle was built in the late 19th century in neo-Gothic style. The castle survived the Second World War almost unscathed. In 1951 an orphanage was established in the castle. Renovations in the 1960s destroyed much of the original furnishings and decorations.
