history
After the First Silesian War in 1742, Schönwald and most of Silesia fell to Prussia . The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Additions to the Description of Silesia as Schönwalde , belonged to a Countess von Poninsky and was in the Rosenberg district of the Principality of Opole . At that time it had 360 inhabitants, two farms , a school, a windmill, 15 farmers, 34 gardeners and twelve cottagers. Since 1789 the place was owned by the von Jordan family.
After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Schönwald belonged to the district of Rosenberg OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a castle, a farm with a sheep farm, a Catholic school, a distillery, a brewery and 76 houses in the village. In the same year 635 people lived in Schönwald, 33 of them Protestants. In 1855 the village numbered 396 people. In 1865 Schönwald consisted of a manor and a rustical community. At that time the village had 7½ farm positions, eight gardener positions, six semi-gardener positions and four cottage industry positions, as well as a Catholic school and an important distillery. The places Jordansmühe with three gardener positions and three semi-gardener positions and the Charlottenberg colony with eight cottagers also belonged to Schönwald. In 1874 the district of Schönwald was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Schönwald and Walspek-Rosenhain and the estate districts of Jordansmühle and Schönwald. In 1885 Schönwald had 296 inhabitants.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 40 people eligible to vote in town voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 143 for membership in Poland. At Gut Schönwald, 125 voted for Germany and 69 for Poland. After the division of Upper Silesia, Schönwald remained with the German Empire . In 1925 Schönwald had 679 inhabitants and in 1933 592 inhabitants. On April 1, 1939, Schönwald was incorporated into the rural community of Lindenhöhe OS . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Rosenberg . Until then the estate belonged to the von Studnitz family.
In 1945 the previously German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Świercze in Poland . Schönwald Palace was looted and set on fire after the Red Army marched in. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship and in 1975 to the Czestochowa Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Oleski and again to the Opole Voivodeship.
