history

The Rochus Church
graveyard

Today's Grodzisko originally consisted of several places. Grodzisko was acquired by the city of Rosenberg in 1482. To commemorate the liberation from the plague which raged in 1708, the Rochus Church was built on the Rochusberg, southeast of Rosenberg, the highest point in the district. This was made of wood and equipped with two bells. It served indulgences and later also as a burial church for the place Walspek. At the end of the 18th century, the War Council of Walspeck founded the chamber villages of Walspek and Rosenhain as colonies. In 1774 Walspek was founded near the Rochuskirche and in 1775 Rosenhain.

The two places Rosenhain and Walspek were mentioned in 1783 in the book Additions to the Description of Silesia as Rosenhayn and Walspeck . Rosenhayn was a twelve-site colony and belonged to the town of Rosenberg. The colony had 55 German-speaking residents, most of whom were craftsmen by profession. Walspeck also belonged to the city of Rosenberg and had ten jobs. Grötsch was mentioned together with the place Wyssoka as Grodzisko and Wissokka . Both belonged to the Treasury at Rosenberg and had 302 residents, 19 farmers, 27 gardeners and six cottagers, the majority of which was spread over Wyssoka. The four places were in the Rosenberg district of the Principality of Opole .

In 1865 Rosenhain and Walspek had 22 colonist positions. Grodzisko (Grötsch) belonged to Wyssoka.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 110 eligible voters in the municipality of Walspek-Rosenhain voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 138 for membership in Poland. Walspek-Rosenhain and Grötsch remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . In 1936 Walspek-Rosenhain became Rosenhain. In 1939 the communities Rosenhain and Lindenhöhe (the former Wyssoka) were merged. Until 1945, the places were in the district of Rosenberg OS

In 1945, the previously German towns came under Polish administration and were then incorporated into the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Grodzisko in Poland after the towns of Rosenhain and Grötsch merged . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship and in 1975 to the Czestochowa Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Oleski and again to the Opole Voivodeship.
