The municipality of Tarnau ( Polish: Gmina Tarnów Opolski ) is a rural municipality in the Powiat Opolski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the village of the same name with around 3450 inhabitants. The community has been bilingual (Polish and German) since 2007.

geography

The municipality is located in Upper Silesia and borders in the northwest on the district and voivodeship capital Opole (Opole) . It has an area of ​​81.6 km².

Through the capital of the railway line between Opole and extends Gliwice (Gliwice) .

history

In the referendum on March 20, 1921, 355 eligible voters voted in Tarnau to stay with Germany and 532 for Poland. Since the majority of the Opole constituency voted for Germany, Tarnau remained with the German Empire.

In 1945 the area came to Poland. Gmina Tarnów was formed and became part of the Opole Voivodeship in 1950. The Gromada Tarnów Opolski existed from 1954 to 1972 . From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the smaller Opole Voivodeship .

In the 2002 census, 24.34% of the community population identified themselves as belonging to the German minority and a further 10.87% identified themselves as "Silesians".

The community has been officially bilingual since February 15, 2007 and introduced German place names on April 14, 2008.

It maintains two partnerships with Brück in Brandenburg and Bad Blankenburg in Thuringia .

Community leader

The head of the municipal administration is the municipality leader . So far, this has been Krzysztof Mutz, who ran his own election committee again in 2018. The regular election in October 2018 led to the following result.

  • Krzystof Mutz (Election Committee Krzystof Mutz) 69.9% of the votes
  • Gabriela Jośko (electoral committee Gabriela Jośko) 30.1% of the vote

Mutz was thus re-elected in the first ballot.

Municipal council

The municipal council consists of 15 members and is directly elected in single-person constituencies. The 2018 municipal council election led to the following result:

  • Election committee Krzystof Mutz 40.4% of the vote, 7 seats
  • Election committee German minority 25.8% of the votes, 4 seats
  • Election Committee Gabriela Jośko 24.4% of the vote, 1 seat
  • Election Committee of the Tarnów Opolski Fire Brigade 5.8% of the vote, 2 seats
  • Jarosław Gowina Election Committee 3.7% of the vote, 1 seat
