The municipality Chronstau ( Polish Gmina Chrząstowice ) is a rural municipality in the Powiat Opolski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . Their seat is the village of the same name with about 1300 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in Upper Silesia and borders in the west on the district and voivodeship capital Opole (Opole) . The state road Droga krajowa 46 and the railway line between Opole and Ozimek run through its territory .
history
In 1945 the area came to Poland. The Gmina Chrząsty , later Chrząstowice, was formed and in 1950 it became part of the Opole Voivodeship. From 1954 to 1972 various gromadas existed in the municipality, u. a. Tarnów Opolski. From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the smaller Opole Voivodeship .
The rural community of Chronstau has been officially bilingual since 2006 and German-speaking place names were introduced in 2008. On December 11th, 2008 the bilingual place name signs were ceremonially unveiled. Chronstau was the third municipality with German-language place-name signs in the Opole Voivodeship.
On October 30, 2012, Chronstau, Derschau and Dembiohammer received bilingual station signs. These carried the German under the Polish name. The municipality thus had the first bilingual station signs in Poland. When the stations were renovated after a short time, they were given new signs without German inscriptions. This sparked a dispute about bilingualism at the train stops.
